Kaia & Sean

When Kaia decided to book a lifestyle photographer in Tulum we immediately talked location. Tulum is a place of myth and mystery, of Mayan temples, and majestic cliffs. Now, on its most exclusive and quiet southern end, comes Casa Malca.

This is where I met Kaia & Sean, at Pablo Escobar’s old mansion-turned-art-house-hotel. Set along a private beach, the widest of the endless white sand beaches in this corner of the Riviera Maya, Casa Malca marries three spiritually inspiring elements: world-class contemporary art, nature, and laid-back luxury. The perfect spot for stunning images.

Thanks for choosing me as your lifestyle photographer in Tulum, I had a blast spending the morning with you, creating and getting to know you. You guys are so beautiful inside and out and your love is so special and powerful – thanks for choosing me to help celebrate and commemorate it!

Christie

Afternoon spent snorkelling, free diving, jumping off cliffs into crystal clear blue waters and watching the sun set over Tulum. My favourite part of being a photographer in Tulum are the amazing people who come here. Christie, I love our jungle and cenote adventure, talking about life and the world. I’m so happy we met, you beautiful human.

“This experience with Silvia made my Tulum trip. Book. It. Now. Silvia brings such an amazing energy to every space she enters with her bright smile and passion for travel and photography. Within minutes of meeting, she made me feel at home in Tulum, where I am taking my first solo trip. I felt like I was hanging out with a dear friend the entire day. Having traveled by herself before and currently a Tulum resident, she shared stories, tips, recommendations of places to eat, drink and party. She has such a unique perspective both as a local and as an avid traveller. She took me to a cenote where there was a lot less tourists than the ones you find on most travel blogs – we were the only people there for a while before a few groups of other people showed up. Silvia knows the best spots and angles to take photos at the cenote as well as the beach. She also really cared about the quality of the pictures and was flexible about moving the experience up so we could get the best light of the day. The pictures turned out STUNNING – she is the best photographer in Tulum! You better believe I will be using these on all my social media, dating profiles, etc. forever and ever. She was also super quick in processing the photos. I was able to get them in time for Christmas. (I had the experience the weekend before Christmas!! She is amazingly accommodating because I wanted some of the photos for a Christmas card) After the shoot, we went to a beach club for tacos and drinks. Everything was delicious – I even went back myself for their frozen mango margarita! I cannot recommend this experience enough. Do yourself a favor and book it – you will not regret it. She is just the best! – Christie

How to choose your wedding photographer in Tulum

Choosing a wedding photographer in Tulum can be a little daunting. It is the middle of the jungle and things here don’t always work out as we would like them to – which is all fine. Except wedding day.

I have been a wedding photographer in Tulum for the past 4 years. In this article I’ve compiled THE things everyone should take into consideration before booking.

STYLE

Deciding on the style of photography you want is so important. Think of whether you like a modern, relaxed feel to your photos, a fly on the wall approach, a traditional posed session or perhaps a light, natural and romantic fine art feel. There is no point booking a photographer foor their natural, candid style of shooting if you want lots of posed traditional photos. Once you decide on which style you are drawn to, narrow down your search to phtographers who shoot in that style and also fit your budget.

PHILOSOPHY

For some wedding vendors, you really don’t need to care about their philosophy. Wedding photography is not one of those cases. Chances are, you’re going to spend more time with your wedding photographer than with your maid of honor on your wedding day, so you want to make sure they’re someone you jive with.  Once you’ve found photographers you’re interested in, look at their About pages. Those pages are carefully constructed to give you a sense of who the photographer is and how they work.

COVERAGE

Ideally, you want your photographer to be there for your full wedding day—from when you start getting ready until after you make your grand exit from the reception. While packages vary, most include about 6 to 12 hours to cover everything from preceremony events (getting ready with your bridesmaids or first-look photos) to the end of the reception. Most times it’s better to pay for more coverage if there’s a chance you’ll run over and you definitely want your photographer there until the end (overtime is usually charged at a higher hourly rate). If you’re having a larger wedding of 250 guests or more, you might even want too ask about having three photographers to make sure your event is covered from all angles.

ASK ABOUT POSTPRODUCTION DETAILS

Between a month and six weeks is standard time to receive your gallery. Why? Photographers shoot enormous raw files far bigger than your typical JPEG. Shooting raw allows your photographer freedom to edit the photo but also takes a long time to upload, process and correct. The avarage time a photographer spends on postproduction for a wedding is around 40 hours.

Here is what to ask before choosing your wedding photographer in tulum. How many images should I expect? Can I get prints made myself  or does the photographer retain the rights? Will they be high resolution or low resolution? Can I get special effects, like beauty editing or request the style of editing?

BUDGET

Know exactly what you want. Every wedding photographer in Tulum offers different packages. When interviewing candidates, ask for a general range based on their “standard fee” and “extras”. It’s important to find out what’s included in the standard package as well as the range of extras you may want; an engagement session, cost per additional coverage hour, second shooter, bridesmaids lunch, guys’ outing, family session,

CREATE A DETAILED ACTION PLAN

Everything from your chosen venue to the time of year will affect your wedding photographs. If you’ve got your heart set on certain shots, like couple’s portraits at sunset or a sparkler send-off photo, then you need to talk it through with your photographer. Make sure they know what your vision is so they can help bring it to life.

Brian & Paula

From Colombia and the US. They met while she was on holiday. She works in her home country and he in his. Visa processes are complicated. They don’t want to get married just for papers – they want it to be the real thing. Every few months one of them embarks on a 12 hour journey to see the other. This time they met half way. Brian thought to look for a photographer in Tulum. That’s how we met and and spent the day celebrating their love and friendship.

We started out with Mezcal cocktails as we waited for golden hour to set in and then walked barefoot down the beach – into the sunset.

Being a Photographer in Tulum allows me to meet people with such cool vibes from all over the world and share these incredible moments together – thank you. You guys are so beautiful inside and out and your love is so special and powerful – thanks for choosing me to help celebrate and commemorate it!

Brian and Natalie

Spent the afternoon with these two exploring cenotes, swimming in the middle of the jungle and taking a sunset stroll down the beach before going for some tacos. Being a Photographer in Tulum allows me to meet people with such cool vibes from all over the world and share these incredible moments together – thank you.

Guys it was incredible getting to know you and hopefully we see each other again soon!

“This was the best way to kick off our time in Tulum! It felt like we truly had a private “behind-the-scenes” tour of a cenote, she introduced us to an awesome taco spot on the beach, and gave us some great tips for the rest of our time in Tulum. Best of all we will now have awesome professional photos of our Tulum vacay! Highly recommend.” – Natalie
